The stock market you used to know is changing before your eyes. Once your parents and grandparents bought a stock and held it. If your grandparents bought General Motors stock and gave it to your parents who gave it to you, it would be worth less today. So the concept of buy and hold is now gone forever. The stock market has evolved into a trading market. It is not unlike going to the market each day to see what a good buy is. Once you identify what a good buy is for the day, you buy some only to return tomorrow and sell it back for a profit. This new dynamic to the stock market favors the short term trader. It doesn’t matter how you trade. Some people study and track sectors or stocks and go with their gut feelings. Others use computer software to take the emotion out of trading. Stocks are bought and sold only through tripping triggers on the computer. The fact that traders now sell into all rallies is putting the market into a one-step-forward, two-step-back pattern.
