Floods Teach Valuable Lessons To Those Who Listen

It is the severe flooding in many parts of the world. Flooding is the temporary condition where normally dry land is inundated by inland or tidal waters. Flooding also occurs when there is rapid accumulation of runoff waters from a variety of sources. Flooding caused by intense inland storms in mountainous areas or in areas recently destroyed by wildfires, is often accompanied by mudslides. Floods affect all parts of the world with recent devastating floods in Russia, Pakistan, China, Iowa, Chicago, Milwaukee, Arizona, Brazil, Nashville, and other places. You seem to hear about another area hit by heavy flooding daily. Flooding holds the record as the world event that is the deadliest of all natural disasters. Floods are the biggest cause of loss of life every year around the world. They kill thousands of people and make millions homeless. When the government of a country declares a national disaster area, more than 75% of the time, it is due to flooding. Although hurricanes and coastal storms combined with wind seem to cause devastating destruction and get the most news coverage, more people are actually killed by inland flooding in the long run. It is the slower moving storms inland that dump the most rain in one spot rather than fast-moving coastal hurricanes and tropical storms blown inland by strong winds. There is beneficial, nurturing rainfall and harmful, destructive rainfall that gets out of hand. There seems to be no balance between helpful rainfall, drought, and flooding. BP Is Planning Their Escape Strategy Behind Closed Doors

Although we predicted weeks ago that this event would cause the demise of BP and the exiting of their senior executives, it has only been the last few days that rumors have started circulating to this effect. Rumors are beginning to circulate that Tony Hayward, BP’s CEO will be resigning. He is only the first; there will be more. President Obama has said that BP will pay every dollar for the cleanup. However, the cost of cleanup is only one major cost . . . liability lawsuits, possible criminal indictments, and the devaluing of their stock will force the company into a financial corner with few options. The result will not be good for Americans taxpayers, investors, the UK, European investors, and the people of the Gulf and East Coasts, all negatively affected by this environmental disaster. Cleanup and lawsuit costs will exceed more profits than BP could make in many years. Right now, BP is planning how they can get out of paying 10′s of billions of dollars for their negligence. Not only are they planning how to get out of paying, but they are already holding secret meetings with other oil companies planning their exit strategy and designing golden parachutes for their executives. Problems On The High Seas

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the raid by Israeli commandos on a flotilla of ships that were en route to the Gaza Strip. It’s been six weeks since the accident on the offshore drilling rig killed 11 people and the oil started gushing into the Gulf. Nothing that has been tried to stop the leak has worked and people are getting more and more frustrated and angry over the growing situation as the waters grow darker, affecting beaches, marshes, coastline industries, and people’s livelihoods. People whose lives have been damaged have initiated lawsuits against the companies involved and there is now talk of the US pursuing both civil and criminal investigations against the companies. People are wondering will this ever stop and what will our future look like? The world is criticizing Israel for the way they handled the commandeering of an activist flotilla bound for Gaza. Each side is saying they were right in doing what they did and pointing fingers at the other side as the aggressor in the situation. Israel says it has the right to prevent Hamas from arming itself by having weapons delivered by sea. Critics of Israel say that the blockade has plunged the people of Gaza into abject poverty and not hurt Hamas. The blockade seems to present a stalemate for all countries involved. The fact that Israel acted in International waters has also been questioned. It seems to be a situation where no side comes out a winner. Iran is the world leader in deception, denial, and deflection of issues. This makes it very hard to deal with them diplomatically, know their true position at any time on any particular issue, or get a straight answer from their government leaders. Doing this provides Iran with leverage. Leveraging time to continue any subversive actions and to postpone any sanctions imposed against them. This has worked to Iran’s advantage in the past and they will continue these types of actions into the future. The EU and Eurozone’s problems, well publicized in the news, are just beginning. A tsunami of economic and political problems are forming on the horizon. Today’s downgrading of Europe’s sovereign debt, the lowering of Greece’s debt to junk status, and the downgrading of Portugal’s debt, is just the “rumble beneath the ocean” that will cause the tsunami. Unemployment is a global challenge

A report by the UN’s International Labor Organization earlier this year revealed explosive global unemployment of around 212 million people. The report also stated that, although economic growth is going up, unemployment rates will remain high. Unemployment rates will rise in developed countries especially, while East Asian countries should rebound more quickly. This is not good news for developed countries. Developed countries make up only 16% of the world’s workforce, but account for 40% of the growth in unemployment rates.
