Each year Sedona, AZ, a small town of just several thousand people, attracts millions of tourists. The Dehumanizing Use Of Technology – Super Soldiers

Recently, there has been a flurry of “enhanced human” movies and video games released on the public. Technology-enhanced humans who fight crime and evil and save us from the bad guys. These movies and games are getting us all ready to accept “Super Soldiers”…the ultimate killing machine…coming soon to a battlefield near you. Yes, governments are developing technology that turns ordinary soldiers into better killers. The goal is to produce a soldier who has super strength, shows no fear, kills without care or remorse, can overcome battle fatigue, and basically performs like a robot or machine instead of a person. Don’t we already have people who destroy countries and their people without care or remorse? Aren’t they called bankers?

The Dehumanizing Use Of Technology – Superman Doesn’t Need Sleep

If soldiers are tired, they need to sleep. If they are plagued by sleep deprivation, as they often are on the battle field, they are less able to fight effectively. Bad decision-making also comes from lack of sleep. A miscalculation handling sophisticated weapon systems can prove deadly. Drugs are being developed and enhanced to allow soldiers to operate without sleep for extended periods – even several days.

The Dehumanizing Use Of Technology – No Post-Traumatic Stress

The stress of war often causes soldiers lucky enough to make it back to experience nightmares and stress-related problems. Usually, these have been treated with psychotherapy and antidepressants. Now drugs are being developed that erase a soldier’s memories of what they did. If you can’t remember you did it, then it didn’t happen.

The Dehumanizing Use Of Technology – And People Are Excited About This?

We once lived in a time when warfare meant men stood and threw rocks at one another and beat each other with clubs. Now, we live in an age of dehumanized drone warfare, technologies that enable man to destroy another person and their entire country’s infrastructure without looking them in the eye, and have drugs designed to erase the bad memories and guilt from doing it. Technology Disconnect – Produces A Virtual Personal Assistant

With the announcement of Apple’s iPhone 4S, technology has produced a virtual personal assistant, named Siri. Siri understands commands in English, French and German and can help you with information, maps, directions, news, weather, manage your calls and schedule, and many other things. Some of us remember that people used to have a human who did these kinds of things for us. They were called your secretary, executive assistant, or personal assistant. They did all the things Siri does and more. They were amiable and efficient multi-taskers who kept you on track. Your best customers loved them, complimented them, and sometimes wished they had one just like them. Although they may not have been able to understand requests in any language other than English, they put the “personal” in personal assistant and were such valuable resources that many executives took them with them when they changed jobs. Most of their jobs are gone now, replaced by technology.

Technology Disconnect – The Sales Prevention Department

You desperately need to contact John Petersen, VP of Sales, about a new business partnership, so you call into the company. Your call is greeted with these instructions, “To be connected to the party you wish to reach, spell the name of the person, last name first.” Immediately, you know you are in for trouble. Does John spell his last name “P-e-t-e-r-s-e-n?” or “P-e-t-e-r-s-o-n?” or maybe “P-e-d-e-r-s-e-n?” or some other creative Nordic spelling?  You squint at the keypad trying to see the letters and, after several unsuccessful and frustrating attempts, you hit “O” for the operator. You are greeted with a message that tells you the “switchboard is temporarily unattended” and are instructed to type in the name of the party you are trying to reach” and the process starts all over again. You try to outfox the system this time by pounding on the “#” key, hoping to reach an understanding human voice, but end up back at the non-existent switchboard. Maybe that’s why it’s called the “pound” key? Not to be deterred, you call into the company again but this time you are surely going to get through to Mr. Petersen. You push ”1 for Sales” and surprisingly, you get right through to a perky, inside sales humanoid who asks you what product you are calling about. You resort to fibbing and inform them that you thought you were getting connected to Mr. Petersen but somehow got them. So, you ask for John’s extension to which they respond, “I’m sorry, we’re not allowed to give out his phone number or email, but I can connect you to the system where you can type in his name and get connected and leave a message for him.” OK but, “How does John spell his last name,” you inquire? To which the person who now smells your desperation replies, “I’m sorry, we’re not allowed to give out personal information on any employee.” See, technology has created the sales prevention department.

Technology Disconnect – Something To Hide Behind

Technology has created the ultimate gadgets for people to hide from the outside world while at the same time convincing them they are so important or busy that they don’t have time to talk to the mere mortals trying to reach them. I have a friend in sales who consistently makes three times more than his peers selling the same products. In his best year, he made over $500,000 and credits his success to being “accessible” to his clients. He says that selling is a “contact sport” and he touches the customer as often as possible. He has all the latest tech gadgets, but doesn’t hide behind them. His customers have his office phone number, his business and personal cell numbers, his business and personal email addresses, and his home phone so they can reach him on the weekend if they need to. They rarely do, but offering it alone gains him many points in the relationship. He says it’s the relationship that matters in all situations, especially selling, and you can’t build the long-term profitable relationships if you are inaccessible. His customers love him, he knows the names of their spouse and kids, the joys and sorrows they are going through, and sends them cards (not emails) on special occasions.  He’s been offered management jobs at the company all of which he has turned down. He wants to remain the top sales person and the company wants to keep him from leaving and going to a competitor, because if he left, they know his customers would leave with him.

Do you hide behind technology and allow it to keep you from realizing your full potential in business or your life? Do you hide behind voice mail and email? When Are Advances In Tech Worth It?

It’s hard to say when advances in tech are worth it. Worth is that elusive quality that renders something desirable, useful, or valuable. The disconnection with regard to technology and mankind is that worth has been equated with profits. Worth can be determined as a measurement of one’s own merit, integrity, applied knowledge, or contribution to making the world a better place. Or, as most capitalists in the free market society measure it, how it can produce as much profit for investors for as long as possible regardless of the impact on the world. Technology then, has a dual personality – a Yin/Yang, a push-pull, a give/take essence or energy that, depending on how it’s applied, puts out positive or negative energy into the Universe.

A Positive Example Of Tech Advances

Here’s a definition for a positive example of tech advances. When the species of the world are more able to control and adapt to their natural environments due to the application of the technology for the betterment of all. An example would be the invention of the printing press, the telephone, or the Internet. The printing press, telephone and Internet were all technology advancements that increased man’s ability to communicate and share ideas, and that’s good.

A Negative Example Of Tech Advances

The same can be used as a negative example of a tech advances. The printing press, telephone and Internet have all been used to spread hate, destruction, and to commit crimes. So the technology remained the same, but the worth of it changes depending on the application. The radio-controlled airplane you played with as a kid has transformed into the drone attack aircraft that kills people you’ve never seen or met. Software can make people more productive in their jobs but can also be used to create a cyber-attack that results in killing thousands of people.

But Doesn’t Technology Create Jobs?

Technology does create jobs. But how do you separate the job from the outcome or intention of the technology? Would you take a job building a computer-controlled weapon designed to kill someone on the other side of the world or would you feel better about your “worth” and contribution to the world if you worked for a company that built technology designed to feed the hungry of the planet?

In a previous session, you predicted that when the US Dollar/Oil stranglehold was broken, new types of energy applications would provide employment for many and numerous technologies that have been suppressed for decades will surface. How will people’s attitudes change regarding technology and its applications once we experience the “Big Collapse and Restructuring?”  Will we see the day when nobody will work for any company involved in using technology for destruction or strictly profit motives? Will we ever become enlightened enough to understand that technology is a gift for us to use in positive ways and not in destructive ones?

Technology Can’t Save Us From Ourselves

Albert Einstein hit it on the head when he explained why technology can’t save us this way… “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” Is he saying that we lose some of our humanity with every technological advancement? Or, is he implying that the way we use technology makes us less human? Is man’s fascination for technology leading us down a path we will regret as human beings? Or, has it already done so? It appears that technology has made it possible for man to gain control over everything except the technology itself.

Technology Can’t Save Us From Nature

Technology is often used for the wrong reasons and Nature makes sure technology can’t save us. Advanced technology has been used to try and control nature and this is wrong. It goes against nature. Technology has been applied maliciously by governments in an attempt to turn weather into a military weapon. Man and nature are part of the same universe while technology is a product of man. Nature is always moving toward balancing itself and making adjustments for man’s self-serving actions, moral miscalculations, and acts of senseless aggression. Technology is therefore destructive when it gets into the hands of people who don’t realize this connection between man, nature and the well-being of all in the universe.

Technology Can’t Save Us From Greed

With all its advancements, technology can’t save us from the greed of people. Shouldn’t technology be designed to make our lives easier or to save us money? While we have evolved from a broom to having a robot sweep our floors, we can’t say much for cheaper transportation technology. In 1972, I had a car that got 42mpg and was practical and dependable. Now, almost 40 years later (a long time in technology years) how many cars can you buy that get that kind of mileage? Based on how much other technologies have improved in 40 years, like computer technology, don’t you think you should be able to buy a car now that got 80mpg – 100mpg? Or, does the greed of big oil companies and the auto manufacturers get in the way of technological progress? Where are all the people and companies that developed technology so a car could go 100 miles on a gallon of gas or run on water? Greed has crushed these technologies before you ever saw them.

Technology Can’t Save Us From Extinction

History has taught us that technology can’t save us from extinction. It is thought that many ancient civilizations were very technologically advanced, but they disappeared. Did their technology get out of hand and did they self-destruct? Or, did the universe, in its never-ending quest to balance and preserve itself strike with deadly retribution? Did more advanced, intelligent life from another galaxy visit and put a stop to these civilizations before they harmed the universe and the fate of all mankind? Will the coming technology creations we call “advancements” really advance us as a species or with every generation’s new technology will we become less human until we become extinct?

Does Intelligent Life From Other Planets Exist?

Every day around the world, we are witness to intelligent life from other planets. Radar picks up forms and compositions we can’t explain or have never seen before flying around in the sky. Numerous people report seeing the same objects in the sky and they get reported on the mainstream news. The broadcast is usually wrapped up with some government “expert” who dismisses the whole thing as it being a “plane” a “weather balloon” or “swamp gas” or somebody pulling a prank. In a few days everybody forgets about it; everybody that is, except the people who witnessed it.

Astronauts See Intelligent Life From Other Planets   

Astronauts see indicators of intelligent life from other planets all the time. Apollo crews saw objects they couldn’t explain on the moon and following them in space. Then they were told never to speak about them. Neil Armstrong hints at these “protective layers” here.  The Space Shuttle crews have seen many UFO’s following them as they circled the earth. Many of these sightings are well-documented on video here and many other places on YouTube and we suggest you check them out.

Linda’s Experiences With Intelligent Life From Other Planets

Linda has experienced first-hand, encounters with other intelligent life forms and informs me they do not like being called “Aliens.” Since the 1970′s, Linda has had numerous encounters with other intelligent life forms and their ships. They have interacted with her through dreams as well as during daylight hours and evening sky sightings. Living in Sedona, AZ, it’s not uncommon to see UFO’s and we have seen many, with the most recent sighting being a couple months ago while sitting in the hot tub late one night.  Two crafts dropped into view slowly from high in the northeast sky, they stopped, turned at a 90-degree angle and sped off quickly to the north. Linda says UFO’s are up there all the time, but people just don’t see them. I never saw one until I moved to Sedona, probably because the skies are so clear and unpolluted here. To Linda, it’s no big deal to see one and if I point out something interesting looking in the sky, she says, “Yeah, it’s just a space craft.”

Technology In Healthcare

Technology hopes to change our medical system but faces many challenges. It would be a big step forward just to have people’s medical records online and easily accessible. Many current problems could be eliminated like losing someone’s file, inability to access information in an emergency, or just getting records to the right place quickly. In this day and age, doctor’s offices are still stacked to the ceiling with patient’s folders and we are faxing papers back and forth using technology from the 1970′s. 

All In One Place

Having all your medical history on a smart card would be an ideal solution but can face many hurdles. All systems in the medical billing chain would have to be compatible and able to easily read information regardless of its source. Currently, paperwork has to be generated manually and sent to five or six different providers for different things. That’s like going to several different places to take your driver’s test…one place for right-hand turns, one for left, one for an eye test, and another for a parking test. It’s much more efficient for everyone and less expensive if you can do it in one spot.

Too Many Cooks Trying To Influence The Recipe

Suppose you had chefs in different restaurants all trying to bake the perfect apple pie. Everyone had their own little “twist” on a recipe that should be fairly simple and uncomplicated. But what you end up with is a pie that takes too long to make, may or may not taste good, and has an enormous price tag! Each customer that eventually gets a piece of the pie pays $500 for their slice. Also the ingredient that one chef put in may react poorly with ones the other chefs used.  That’s how the current medical billing system works (or doesn’t work). Implementing technology to keep a person’s records should be the easiest part of the equation. 

The System Is What’s Sick

With health care costs rising faster than anything else and becoming an increasing burden on citizens of the U.S., it appears that what’s sick is the system. Especially when you consider people are going to foreign countries for quality healthcare, performed by American-trained doctors and surgeons in spotless facilities with modern technology, and paying 20% of what the same procedures cost in the U.S. and recovering in 5-star resorts. There seems to be no technology solution to greed.

Technology makes life easier for us; it opens doors to new scientific realms that were unavailable just a few years ago. It helps us to go faster, get more done, and learn in new ways. A new type or adaptation of technology can empower a generation to communicate in a way that changes the world.  

Technology also has a great deal of pressure put upon it. It’s expected to pull us out of depressions, win wars, and protect the peace. It’s expected to lead us into a future that’s safe and sustainable. But technology doesn’t always come through as we expect it to? Sometimes we think that technology is the solution when, in fact, it can become the problem. 

Do you embrace technology or do you shy away from it? If you are open to using technology to improve your life, can you use it too much? If you shun technology, are you keeping yourself from experiences that you might enjoy and find to improve your life? 

Whatever your relationship to technology is, it’s as important as any other relationship. It has to contain a balance so it doesn’t rule your  life or ruin it either. Social media has been the agent of social as well as political change enabled by technology that didn’t exist a decade ago. To counteract social media-induced unrest, governments try to shut down the internet, shut off mobile networks, and cripple ISP’s in order to stop any real-time communications. It’s the real-time communications  that enable real-time dissent. If you can put a stop to, or interrupt the communications, then you can buy time to counter the uprising and prepare your response. But it’s getting as hard for governments to suppress the Internet as it is to suppress the people. People everywhere are having their “I’ve had it” day. They are using technology to connect with others who feel the same way. In connecting with like-minded people, every available method of old and new technology will be incorporated to bring about change.
