Here’s some painful lessons we’ve learned as a society. Societies have known for thousands of years that debasing currencies eventually leads to collapsing economies. Failure to prosecute financial fraud encourages it, continuing the destruction of economies. Not separating depository banking accounts from speculative investment banking money entices investment firms to mismanage their business, causing all the money to disappear, customers to get wiped out, and starts a domino effect of bankruptcies due to the inter-connectivity of risk-based investment firms, destroying people’s lives and the economy.

Painful Stock Market Lessons Coming – Bailouts Don’t Benefit Anyone

One of the painful lessons we’ve learned is that bailouts don’t benefit anyone except those who caused the problems in the first place. It doesn’t change their behavior one bit. It allows them to continue the risky behavior, perpetuating and multiplying the problems and greed on a worldwide scale, destroying economies further. We’ve learned that unregulated trading in derivatives like credit default swaps results in the destruction of the world’s economies. You wouldn’t know it by watching the rallies lately in the stock markets, but the markets are in serious trouble. Of course none of the reasons why the markets are in trouble are being talked about in the mainstream news. You only hear the “happy news”…the plans, schemes, or scams that ease bankers’ pain and inflict or postpone pain on citizens.

Reasons Why Goldman Sachs Now Runs The US and Europe

Along with the “fixes” for the Euro crisis problems which negatively affect markets is the replacement of the heads of Government. First Greece, and now Italy. But who are these new Prime Ministers? Lucas Papademos, Greece’s new PM, is a former Vice President of the European Central Bank. Italy’s new PM, Mario Monti, according to a recent annual report, is on the Board of International Directors of Goldman Sachs. The new President of the European Central Bank – the most important policy making institution in the Eurozone – is Mario Draghi, who also happens to be the former Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International. So now, Goldman Sachs is running both the ECB and Italy! One Italian editor, Alessandro Sallusti, wrote that “This is the band of criminals who brought us into this financial disaster.” Now, it is “like asking the arsonists to put out the fire.”

Reasons Why Life Is Good If You’re A Banker

So with bankers running the financial world and putting in their banker-buddies to run governments… then, the markets (and Life) should be good. Good, that is, if you’re a banker (or if you are married to one). If you are not a banker, then you should be planning for how this ongoing financial Ponzi scheme in both Europe and America is going to come crashing down – dragging the markets with it. Stock Market Turns Into The Shock Market

Global investors should be concerned as the stock market turns into the shock market. With the coming default of Greece plus other weakened countries, the collapse of Europe’s big banks, and the coming run on U.S. banks by citizens fed up with getting the short end of the economic stick and removing their money, the world and the stock market are in for a big shock. What people don’t realize is that when already asset-strapped banks start seeing their deposits fly out the door and go into local credit unions and nearby mattresses, they are seeing the beginning of the end. This is the 1-2-3 punch that will bring down the TBTF banks and crush the stock market at the same time for investors. JPMorgan’s weakened profits announced Thursday, October 13, 2011 is the beginning of a litany of poor bank results and a wakeup call for citizens and investors to circle the wagons.

Stock Market Turns Into The Shock Market – Bank Defaults

The great financial Oracle, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, recently warned of “cascading defaults,” “bank runs,” and “catastrophic risk.” Last week the world learned that a little Franco-Belgian bank, Dexia, was “having troubles” and there was a mini-panic. Yes, it’s small compared to some French banks, which are some of the biggest in the world, dwarfing some of the largest U.S. banking units like JPMorgan, Bank of America, and Citigroup, but it’s assets are still 1.5 times the size of the Belgian economy! Notice how quickly countries stepped in to “save” it. So, if this little bank caused such a panic response, imagine what the shock will be when Spanish, Italian, or French banks need rescuing. Do you think this will be good or bad for the stock and bond markets?

Stock Market Turns Into The Shock Market – Sovereign Debt Defaults

Besides banks needing bailouts, what about nation’s defaulting on their debt. Greece is already a goner, but who will be next? The richest governments in the EU like Germany and France are scrambling to rescue failing banks. But who is going to rescue them when their banks start showing signs of failing? Doesn’t it make sense that if you give away your money to save other country’s banks, pretty soon you won’t have any money to save your own? At that point, who do you go to for a loan? That’s right, the loan sharks of last resort…the international bankers who will be glad to give you a high-interest loan, take your country’s resources as collateral, and constantly raise the interest rate to you Mafia-style. Forget about paying back your loan, you won’t even be able to service the interest. You, the government, and your citizens will be part of the international banker’s “family” forever, which is what they wanted in the first place. The whole deal stinks from the very beginning – bailing out the first bank or country. Welcome to the New World Odor. Did I say New World “Odor?” Yes, I did. The back-room deals put together by central and international banks at the expense of countries and their citizens will have a stench that extends around the world.

Liar, Liar Pants On Fire

“Liar, liar pants on fire is a phrase children like to shout out when they think the other person is lying or exaggerating the facts. It sounds like a silly thing to say because, if your pants actually caught on fire when you lied, more financial newscasters, their TV guests, stock brokers, real estate agents, used car salesmen, and politicians would be dead. The phrase refers to the fact that lying is not a good thing to do and “pants on fire” is symbolic of the fibber getting a well-deserved spanking. Some recent fibs you hear repeated weekly on the mainstream financial press are, “the markets are recovering”… “it’s a buying opportunity” … “retail sales are strong” … and “we have a plan to create jobs.” Whenever you hear these, watch for the person’s drawers to spontaneously combust on national TV.

Liar, Liar Markets Are Dire

The liars on TV won’t tell you the markets are dire. They will tell you that corporations are “sitting on record piles of cash” or that “Wall Street salaries and bonuses are increasing” or remind us that the people at the top of the financial food chain are doing fabulously well. What they don’t tell you is that money is being made by shorting markets, or by high-frequency trading the normal investor can’t participate in, and through massive market manipulations. Since this is working for Wall Streeters, then everything must be alright in the world. What’s not working is that Main street investors have lost everything due to the manipulators’ greed and financial crimes perpetrated on a worldwide scale. The less said about jobs or helping average Americans survive economically the better. And be sure not to tell anyone that most of the jobs being created are below-subsistence pay, with few or no benefits. Is this how markets are going to recover?

Liar, Liar Economy On Fire

Liars won’t tell you the economy is on fire. Over 50 million people are without health care in the US, 52 million living in poverty, almost 50 million on food stamps, 30 million needing work, millions of homes in foreclosure and 5 million more late on mortgage payments, how can this be good for the stock market? Pile on top of this the worsening European crisis and US banks’ exposure to Euro debt, their own derivative losses still on their books, forced layoffs coming in the financial sector, and the never-ending stream of lawsuits over the housing crisis and you have something that looks more like the destruction of the markets and not recovery.

Capitalizing On People’s Misery For Profit

Capitalizing on people’s misery for profit is a big business for banksters and Wall Street criminals. Presently, they are looking out over America and the cash-strapped misery of people, municipalities, and states and wondering how they can make billions in profits. JPMorgan Chase made over $5 billion in net revenues in 2010 running the government’s food stamp debit card program and expects business to be even better in 2011 and coming years. Smelling blood in the water, with the looming possibilities of municipal and state defaults, the market manipulators are working furiously to come up with new financial products that will allow them to short America’s states and cities. Do you think that the government would do anything to prevent their Wall Street campaign contributors from making money by betting against your town or state? Republicans and Democrats alike are down on their knees kissing the rings of the financial and corporate gods they serve. More misery for the peasants? Bring it on. Let’s pay for banker’s multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses this year with austerity programs for the cash-strapped masses. Robin Hood in reverse.

So, with all this going on, how will the markets be affected? Will the super-rich affluent consumers be enough to “keep retail sales up?” Will the jobs that are created be enough to offset an economy with a growing number of people dependent on the government for survival? How will the rising prices of needed commodities, declining real estate prices, increasing unemployment numbers, faltering confidence, and increasing numbers of desperate people in America saddled with austerity measures help the stock markets? Will the continued falling prices of stocks be sold to us as “buying opportunities?” Or, will we see a lot of flaming pants on TV?

Moving The Market With Feelings

Lots of things are moving the market recently and some of the biggest influencers are feelings.  The consumer sentiment index measures consumers’ attitudes toward the present and future state of the economy as well as their feelings about their individual financial situation. The index plunged to a 30-year low in August. This not only doesn’t look hopeful for individuals, it doesn’t look helpful to the stock market. We also saw retail sales rise in July. This was probably the result of people seeking the refuge of A/C at the mall due to sweltering heat across America and they accidently bought something while they were there – The Accidental Shopper.

Moving The Market With Fear

Fear also plays a large part in moving the market. This played out with the fear of a US debt “downgrade.” The market panicked when it was announced and stock prices plunged. But do “AAA” credit ratings even make sense? The ratings agencies like S&P, Moody’s and Fitch rated the sovereign debt of Ireland, Portugal, Greece, and many other European countries as “AAA.” Now, they are “junk” status and these countries require bailouts. These same agencies rated the sub-prime mortgage-backed securities as “AAA” and you can see how that played out. At least the US only fell one level in the ratings. Imagine if, overnight, the US’s credit rating fell to “junk” status and the affect that would have on the market. Using fear to move the markets allows the manipulators of the markets to make quick profits.

Moving The Market With Manipulation

The manipulators have taken over and are moving the market. Wall Street used to be a place where companies and investors went to make money. Now, it has become a trading platform gamed and scammed by the hackers of the markets. High-speed and program traders hack the markets with the latest technology and financial shenanigans so they can make the profits before the average “investor” can even put his order in. Manipulating the system is designed to  protect the profits of big business, especially bankers. When the rumor came out last week that French banks were possibly “unstable” (read “insolvent”) they paid the price with a hit to their share prices. So, what did the stock exchanges in Europe do? They made it illegal to short these banks’ stocks. This is a direct intervention to stop any type of “free market” pricing that reflects the true value of these banking behemoths’ worth…zero.

So, the stock market is no longer about earnings of public companies and allowing the individual investor to make the minimum amount of money to keep them in the game. It is now all about how to keep sovereign debt problems (the US included) from crashing the worldwide markets, and who has the newest, super-nanosecond trading program designed to take all investors’ money from them as fast as possible. People just aren’t paying attention to earnings anymore – they’re not part of the game and aren’t moving the market.

Stock Market Turmoil Causes Markets To Slip And Slide

It’s the start of the summer and the beginning of stock market turmoil. Let’s review the recent news affecting the markets. An emergency meeting by euro-zone officials today has investors worried about the health and stability of the global economy. Italy’s stock market fell 754 points today. Add to the worsening problems in Europe last week’s horrible jobs report and the inability of our leaders to agree on spending limits, taxes and cuts to programs and you set the tone for the third quarter. . . turmoil.

Stock Market Turmoil – It Can’t Happen Here

People still think that all these debt problems are “over there” somewhere and that it couldn’t happen here in the US. They couldn’t be more wrong. We gasp when we see riots in the streets of European cities and protesters getting tear-gassed and shot. Well, what you see happening in Athens and other cities will be happening in cities in Greece, Ireland and Portugal, spreading to Italy, Spain and other states. As the European debt crisis widens, it shows that possible government debt defaults could reach far beyond Greece, Ireland and Portugal, spreading to Italy, Spain and others…yes, even the US.

Banking Is Tanking And Partially Responsible For Stock Market Turmoil

Banks all around the world have exposure to European debt. Not only banks, but funds of all kinds, especially money market funds. Individuals who thought their money was safe in that money market fund may be surprised to find out that 25% – 50% of the fund has European exposure. Banking sectors around the world are in for a rough quarter. Banking is tanking will become the new mantra in the financial world as the stock market turmoil big slide starts.

Where Will The Stock Market Turmoil Take Us?

Are we in for the Big Ride or the beginning of the Big Slide? How long will it be until what’s holding up the markets just gives out? We provide Survival News Predictions to help you overcome any fear of the future you may have and empower you to prepare for what’s coming…  This last weekend we held our annual garage sale to get rid of the things we no longer use that need a new home where they can be appreciated and the things we never used and shouldn’t have purchased in the first place. I’m not sure why we put ourselves through all this work each year preparing for the sale by selecting the treasures to be offered, dusting them off, pricing each one, merchandising the tables properly and designing eye-catching signs that make people want to come to our garage sale over all the others, but it’s become a ritual.

What makes a garage sale interesting is the people you meet and get to talk to. What made this year’s sale different from previous ones was the mood of the people regarding the economy and the stock market. People who come to garage sales are savvy with their money, in tune with what’s happening, and fall into two categories. One group is on a fixed income and make every penny they spend count while the other group is made up of people who have much discretionary income and who are looking for a bargain on something of high value. While one group pulls up in their rusted, dented-up beaters, the other group arrives in their Lexus or Mercedes to hunt for treasures. 

People in each group this year had several things in common. They were all concerned with the direction the country was headed economically and politically. They were concerned with what has happened to our jobs, our standing in the world as a country, the stock market, inflation, higher taxes and expenses coming, supply and demand of necessary commodities, and the debt burden we are leaving our children. Many felt the US was on a downward spiral and more people were open to the idea of leaving the US for good and relocating somewhere else. The main reasons to move cited were to find some place less expensive to live and with less day-to-day stress. 

People attending garage sales comprise a significant cross-section of the country, as rich and poor alike are represented. Listening to them, you get a sense of the overall barometer of the social mood you don’t get from the news on TV. Can this social mood that affects their spending at a garage sale affect the overall markets? Can this be looked at as a barometer of sorts that reflects overall social mood and consciousness? Does the reflection of pessimism or optimism on a mass scale guide the movements of the stock market? Are the “fundamentals of everyday life” more important than the fundamentals of stock analysis predicting future price movements of equities or commodities? Or is the stock market just a rigged game as some believe and it moves on its own?

Markets currently are exhibiting a weak upward momentum. The bin Laden rally lasted only about as long as he did once the Navy Seals arrived. Sovereign debt overseas is still a big concern with the markets. And the government and consumers are over-extended, also worrying the markets.

Consumers aren’t consuming at 71% of the GDP anymore and inflation in gas and food prices is eating into their paychecks…that is, if they still get a paycheck. Yes, some consumer discretionary stocks are doing well…like some clothing stocks and some restaurant stocks where people go and eat too much over-processed food. And stocks like Weight Watchers have been doing better because people are eating too much over-processed food. Maybe clothing stocks are doing well because people have to buy bigger clothes?  Maybe eating too much is what’s keeping the market rallying?

But can we trust banking stocks with their hidden balance sheets or pharmaceutical stocks with a new toxic drug surfacing weekly? How about technical stocks because “technology is the future” and technology always leads us out of recession.  

The big tech names who were leaders going into the tech bubble haven’t done much for the 10 years since coming out of that bubble. Banks and financials were strong going into the housing crisis, but will they regain strength coming out when artificial support runs out, their true losses are exposed, and the housing crisis goes on for 10 more years?  

There is a big distinction between an economic recovery and a temporary market rally. While news watchers may think all is well in recovery-land, investors should read between the lines and watch for the real risks that will kill their profits.

Pension funds are running out of reserves to invest. The average investor has run out of money to invest. States and cities are struggling to balance budgets and avoid defaults. And if you had started investing in the S&P 500 12 years ago, you’d be back to even today. If you listen to mainstream news, you hear that “the worst is over” and we’re in a “recovery.” But is that really true or is it just a pep-talk the coach is giving you at half-time? The experts say that rising oil prices are bad for stocks, as oil surpassed $112 a barrel, stocks fell. The experts also say that falling oil prices are bad for stocks because when oil prices fell a few days ago, the market also dropped. So, which is it?
