In China, over 700 people are dead from landslides, with over a 1,000 people missing and 45,000 evacuated. Pakistan has been experiencing the worst floods in their history! More than 14,000,000 people have been affected and over 1,500 killed. In Kashmir, flash floods have killed 165 people and hundreds are missing after intense thunderstorms. In North Korea, 10,000 people were evacuated and 1,000′s of homes destroyed due to the highest water levels in 15 years. Hundreds of wildfires around Moscow and throughout Russia are combining their smoke with the city smog, producing a deadly combination of gasses. Over 700 people a day are dying from the toxic air that is seven times the safe level for air pollutants. Also, unprecedented summer heat with little or no air conditioning adds to the breathing problems. You can’t have your windows open and you suffer in the excruciating heat if they are closed. It is the worst heat ever on record in Moscow. Wildfires have also destroyed crops, causing the Russian government to ban the export of grains for the rest of the year and the price of wheat has skyrocketed 70%. In addition to landslides in China, flooding this year has killed 1,800 people, and caused tens of billions of dollars in damage across 28 provinces. It seems that weather is out of control. In fact, the weather is the only part of the news that is a prediction. Highly trained meteorologists attempt to predict what the weather will be like weeks in advance. As they predict farther out, they are wrong more often than right. All the other news reported already happened and is now a history lesson that you can only react to. Weather is something you can plan for. There are now four times more weather disasters in the world than there were just two decades ago. They are mostly storms, flooding, and hurricanes/cyclones/tsunamis. Affecting twice as many people, due to increasing populations. Out of the 245 disasters in 2009, 224 were weather-related, affecting 55 million people out of 58 million. 7000 people were killed by weather disasters out of the 8900 killed by all disasters. And storms are getting stronger. More Category 5 hurricanes occurred during the last decade than since the 1960′s. And this trend seems to be continuing into the new decade. Tropical storms and hurricanes seem to be on people’s minds with regard to the oil spill. When Mother Nature’s power strikes man’s negligence it will teach new lessons to the country. The Yin and Yang of the Winds of Change

These winds of new change started blowing last year in about June and continue now. April saw much weather activity from the winds carrying a volcanic plume over Europe to damaging tornados across the US late in April. Winds blew a record-setting spring snowstorm to New England last week that dumped 2 feet of snow on trees that were already budding. Yes, winds play a part in most weather forecasts. Yet, they can’t be forecasted too far in advance until they show up on computer models. Nor are they mentioned much in Almanacs that predict the weather in advance. Winds are elusive. In fact, you even notice how strange it is when they are not present and the air is still. There are many kinds of wind … a nice cool fall breeze, the hot wind of the desert, a balmy, windy day on vacation in the Caribbean, or the violent, twisting winds of a hurricane. It’s all wind. It is Mother Nature’s Yin and Yang. It can generate power for us to survive or it can destroy anything in its path. A gentle breath can blow out a candle but a strong wind can fan a wildfire. Wind can drive the rains or it can wear down everything in its path. It can take you on a journey across the water in a yacht or pick up that same yacht and smash it into the shore. Dreams about wind can symbolize unsettled emotions and the need for change in your life and the world. Many times when you experience wind, you also experience water at the same time. It can be a lethal combination. Hurricanes and tsunamis are some of the most destructive storms on earth. They can also be gentle and nurturing. The breeze can carry pollen on its journey and the gentle spring rains make the flowers and crops of summer a reality. Brazilian authorities announced that the death toll now stands at 256 due to the landslides that have occurred because of heavy rain and flash floods this week. Many local authorities believe the number could rise as high as 400 because teams of rescue workers are still recovering bodies. More than 5,000 people have been forced out of their homes due to torrential rains, mud slides, and flash flooding, which is the worst storm in 40 years. Meteorologists are reporting that further rainfall is expected to occur. Symbolically and spiritually, rain represents a cleansing or purification prior to emotional growth. A heavy rain storm means changes coming emotionally, possibly tough ones. In fact, it can bring an emotional “downpour” causing many inner changes to take place with a person, a community, or a country. Mud is symbolic of being stuck – again a person, community, or country that is not moving forward in life because of repetitive negative thoughts and actions.
