The GLD – Golden Shell Game

The whole idea behind the GLD ETF was to create an efficient way to trade the physical metal. It was a less expensive option than buying the physical metal and then wondering where to store it. Investors flocked to it in 2004 when it first opened, and now it is the second-largest ETF by total assets claiming it holds 40.8 million ounces of physical gold in HSBC’s vault in London.

GLD is sponsored by the World Gold Council, who oversees the Trustee – Bank of Mellon New York. Investors in the GLD may believe they “own” gold, but can’t go visit the vault in London and pick it up. Only “authorized participants” can create or redeem shares. These participants are broker-dealers and other securities market participants who have an agreement with the Trustee and sponsor. These participants include names like Citi, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase and Merrill Lynch – Bank of America. These people can go and either deposit shares and take gold or deposit gold and take shares. Which of these – actual gold bars or pieces of paper – would you rather have in your possession?

The GLD – Not Responsible For The Actual Gold

The GLD trust is not responsible for insuring the gold. Nor is it liable for loss, damage, theft, or fraud. A regular GLD shareholder has no rights whatsoever of redemption and cannot ever take delivery of the metal. Only the authorized participants are allowed to buy or sell actual shares. The individual investor only owns a piece of paper that is supposedly backed by gold in a vault somewhere that represents some quantity of the metal.

The GLD – But Bob Pisani Saw It

CNBC’s Bob Pisani was supposedly taken to the HSBC vault in London in a secure van with blacked-out windows. He was required at HSBC headquarters to give up his cell phone so his position couldn’t be triangulated so as to pinpoint the actual location where they were taking him and his camera crew. He was taken to this “secret” vault somewhere in London owned by someone. Once inside somebody’s vault, Mr. Pisani held up a gold bar to the camera with its serial number clearly shown. It should be noted that the gold bar Mr. Pisani held up to the camera was missing from the HSBC bar inventory list at the time.

So, inquiring minds want to know. Although the whole GLD ETF concept looks great on paper, the following questions beg to be asked… Great for who? Where was Bob Pisani and that gold bar if not in the HSBC vault? Whose secret basement vault was Mr. Pisani really in? Why was the gold bar he held up missing from the daily inventory list posted by HSBC?

Safe Havens Of Last Resort – Gold – A True Sharing Of Wealth

Imagine with all the credit and currency crises going on in the world, countries decided to only accept payment for goods and resources in gold. Then, a country’s wealth would be determined by how much gold it had and not how much paper money a government could print. Countries would buy and sell all needed commodities for gold. You would pay for oil, grains, food, lumber, construction materials, heavy equipment, military weapons – every necessity – with gold.

In 2000, Saddam Hussein announced that Iraqi oil would be traded in Euros…..not US dollar anymore. He attempted to convince OPEC nations to do the same. Sanctions were imposed and claims that Iraq had “weapons of mass destruction” followed, and then came an invasion. They found Saddam hiding in a hole and now he’s dead.

Since the 1980′s, Moammar Gaddafi pushed for an African gold-backed currency – the dinar – to be used to pay for oil exported from Africa. Gaddafi organized meetings called the World Mathaba Conference – one in 1986 and another in 2000 to gain the backing of African nations. His idea was quite popular and he was close to finally implementing it. Freeing Libya and Africa from the grip of the US dollar and international bankers. Then came uprisings in Libya and the claims of the Libyan government using “military force against its own people.” The U.S. not being a country that tolerates using military-style force (or police in riot gear) to battle protesters (except the ones in parks that live in their tents), the US and NATO attacked Libya to “protect the people?” They found Gaddafi hiding in a drain pipe and now he’s dead too.

Safe Havens Of Last Resort – Gold – Central Bankers And The Power Elite Hate It

Any move away from pricing oil in anything but dollars is not very popular with the power elite that control the central banks around the world. They would lose control of inflating and deflating paper currency at their whim, the ultimate “hidden” tax meant to extract wealth from the citizens of the world. Gold-backed currencies would level the playing field and that’s not what they want.

Germany has rejected proposals from France, the UK, and the US to use its gold reserves as collateral for the Eurozone bailout fund. It seems that the power elite do like gold when it’s theirs and want as much of it in their possession as they can get. That’s right, give your gold to central bankers so they can print paper money and bail out your neighbors. Then, they’ll install one of their insiders as your new President or Prime Minister.

EuroQuake Will Produce Commodity And Currency Aftershocks

Europe’s financial nightmare is drawing closer and will produce a EuroQuake that will send commodity and currency aftershocks around the world. The people who, back in 2008, said that Europe would do “just fine” are now singing a different tune. They are claiming that they’ll be able to “fix” it now that it’s not “fine.” Trillions of Euros have been loaned to deadbeat countries and the banks that made the loans are teetering on insolvency going back to the crisis of 2008 – 2009. Now they want to loan these countries more. The trembling has begun, the big shake out is coming, and the aftershocks in commodities and currencies will be felt for years.

EuroQuake Will Start A Tsunami Of Defaults

The PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain) owe $4 trillion and are edging closer to default. No bank or government or group of banks, governments or institutions is big enough or rich enough to bail them out. Europe is in for its “Big Margin Call” day. Sovereign debt is going to have to take huge haircuts and all creditors down line will have to share in the losses. Even then, you will hear more talk of how Europe has a “plan” to survive this collapsing house of cards. What they mean by a “plan” is a plan to save bankers, CEO’s and their political friends at any cost. You’ll see knee jerk reactions to the news that are laughable. Markets shoot up for a few days after a news announcement so the manipulators can make money, and then fall back once people buy in. Decades of manipulation has caused pressure to build up in the financial foundations of countries and institutions and is now showing signs of exploding or imploding. The biggest financial bubble in history is getting ready to pop and the aftershocks will fan out in a ripple effect rolling across other countries like a financial tsunami.

EuroQuake Panic Will Spread Quickly Once It Starts

The EU as a group has the largest economy in the world. A collapse of this economy will set off bank runs, protests and riots across Europe. There are still Americans who believe these problems are “over there,” and won’t affect them, and things will be back to “normal” soon in the US. These are the people who will get an expensive commodities and currency education. You will see panic and bank runs, rioting and civil unrest. They may find that their access to their bank accounts, retirement plans, stock accounts and other assets is limited by some kind of “financial martial law” that overrides people’s right to access their money in large amounts. Caught off guard because they had no previous reference point in their life to such an event occurring, they will become victims of unpreparedness.

Could the richest “developed countries” of the world suffer such a catastrophic decline in such a short period of time? Could it all come unraveled at once, setting off a chain of defaults with financial markets collapsing? Could the paper currencies people have lied, cheated, and killed for become worthless? If it all collapses and we have to start over, will we change course and become “developed people” instead of developed countries?

Banks Need More Free Money

Banks need more free money. Today it was announced that the European Central Bank decided that, since some European banks were unable to borrow the money they needed from the private markets, that they will provide all the “liquidity” they need from now until the end of the year. They will be doing this in conjunction with the Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, and the Swiss National Bank. This is called “easing” as in Quantitative Easing, a fancy phrase for giving money to your fellow bankers and corporate friends so they can stay in business and continue making massive profits. After all, it’s almost bonus time and this announcement comes just in time for those executives to make plans for how they’ll spend their multi-million dollar bonuses this year. Perhaps another mansion to add to their collection?

More Free Money And Traders Gone Wild

In addition to more free money for banks, Wall Street traders greeted this news by driving the Dow up almost 200 points today. I’ll bet you could smell the euphoria in the air on the trading floor. The world’s top criminals get to stay in business a little while longer. Stocks up and commodities, especially gold and silver, down. Timothy Geithner said yesterday, “There is no chance that the major countries of Europe with let their institutions be at risk in the eyes of the market.” By all means, let’s print all the money we can, as fast as we can, so we can save our “institutions” (banks). We certainly don’t want “the markets” to think (the markets can think?) our institutions are at risk! Coincidentally, this was also the day that a “rogue” trader (translation = an unsupervised gambler) was arrested for losing UBS $2 billion. I guess the “markets” think this man is a criminal and will be put in another kind of “institution.”

More Free Money Can’t Save The World

Free money can’t save the world; that is, without destroying it. Free money for Euro banks, near-zero interest rates for another two years, increasing wars and globalization, spiraling debt, no jobs or gains in productivity, mega-corporations not paying taxes into the system, and inflicting more austerity measures on citizens to pay for it all doesn’t look like a good plan for the U.S. or other countries. These trends will result in failed national economies with individuals, businesses, countries, and states defaulting.

Is stimulus the answer to banks needing more free money to continue their schemes and scams they have perpetrated on the world for the last 100 years? What will happen if and when all fiat currencies collapse? When world currencies collapse, will it be “every man for himself?”

Gold Continues To Climb

“Gold continues to climb and make all-time highs. However, the strong recovery of the dollar as it occurs will put an end to gold’s uptrend. The increasing CPI is one of the greatest signs that the economy is indeed, recovering. The other sign is that the U.S. housing sector is recovering as well, and this has the potential to also boost the dollar against gold. The main reason for the dollar’s strength is all the positive data that is being published about the U.S. economy in all major measurement areas.” Wow, since this misleading data was reported everywhere on the corporate-controlled news in mid-2009, everything mentioned that was “recovering” has crashed even more and gold has continued its seemingly relentless climb.

Gold Continues To Climb While Stocks Stall

All day long on the financial news channels, the Money Muppets tout the benefits of investing in stocks. From pre-market shows to after-the-bell wrap-ups, and long into the night with shows following the foreign markets, it’s stocks, stocks, and more stocks. How to play the ongoing “recovery,”  pullback, weather disaster, or whatever seems to happen. It’s all great news for the stock market. It’s a never-ending stream of financial analysis, charts, and double-speak from “experts” expounding their bear and bull-crap advice about how you can make money in stocks. You never hear them extolling the virtues of gold or silver and how to play them. In fact, when you do hear a report on gold, it’s usually some “expert” who called a crash many years ago  telling you how it’s a “bubble” and going to crash again soon. You never hear this report: “In January of 2000, the Dow was at 11,522 and today it’s at 11,400. That’s less than no return on stocks – that’s a loss. Gold however in January of 2000 was at $300 an ounce. Today it’s just under $1,800 which appears to be a 500% gain!” So, if the financial news networks were concerned with you making money on your investments, then why didn’t they tell you in 2000 to put all your money in gold and forget about it for 11 years? We could have been watching re-runs of Happy Days and not Jim Cramer hawking his books. No, they kept trying to get you to invest in Internet stocks, housing stocks, financial stocks and the “investment de jour” which is whatever they are told to tout that day. The three stock sectors mentioned above were the bubbles that crashed while gold continued to climb.

Gold Continues To Climb While Silver Lags

People have been highly concerned with how silver has been acting lately. Silver normally tracks right along with gold going up or down in sync. Lately this hasn’t been the case. Gold has held steady or gone up while silver has lagged or gone down on days when gold went up. And when silver does go down during the day, after hours, it seems to go right back up when foreign markets get involved. How do you explain this erratic behavior in silver and how much longer will it continue? Is silver losing its shine as an investment?

Currencies Threatening To Default

Everybody has bills to pay…from the individual up to countries threatening to default, everybody dreads going to the mailbox and seeing it full of bills. Bills for stuff you needed, stuff you thought you needed and didn’t, and stuff you shouldn’t have even considered buying in the first place because you couldn’t afford it. What happens when you don’t have any money left in savings, can’t borrow any, and your credit cards are maxed out? You default and declare bankruptcy. Individuals and corporations do it all the time. It used to be a big stigma, but Donald Trump has done it several times and still lives in cool places and dates supermodels.

Countries Threatening To Default Are More Numerous Than You Think

Countries on the verge of default need to consider this, stop paying your bills, and just default. You’re going to do it eventually, so why wait? The longer you wait, the citizens in all the EU countries who have their wealth denominated in Euros, that is, their pay checks, savings, pensions, investments, and “walking-around” money will just be getting more scared and may do a run on the banks. Talk about all your eggs in one basket.

Why Are European Countries Threatening To Default

On May 6, 2010, the European Central Bank announced its decision to never buy sovereign and corporate debt. Four days later, on May 10, 2010, they announced a program to buy unlimited sovereign and corporate debt. That same day, the IMF and ECB announced a $957 billion loan program to “calm the markets.” This is probably one of those things they shouldn’t have considered buying because they couldn’t afford it and now they regret it.

Countries Threatening To Default But Refusing To Admit It

But the ECB stands behind its “assets” which consist of about $2.6 trillion; 44% of which are asset-backed securities and “non-marketable financial instruments”…that means smoke and mirrors. They are holding the same worthless bad mortgages and mortgage-backed securities that they bought from European commercial banks. The rest of the “assets” are outstanding loans to Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Greece. Of course, like American banks, they value these almost worthless assets at par value so they can show profits on their books-more smoke and mirrors. This makes the Enron accountants look like amateurs.

Greece Threatening to Default And Holding

Will Greece, now teetering on the edge of the default precipice, be allowed to default? Can the ECB allow any country to default and cause a “credit panic?” Are there enough Euros in the world to provide bailouts to countries lining up to get help? With all these countries threatening to default, what can the ECB do to prevent the collapse of a major world currency and the European Union?

My Big Fat Greek Default

Currency markets are on high alert. Everybody’s guessing what will happen to Greece with its political and economic unrest. The Greek 2-year bond yield has jumped to 29.69%. The Athens Composite Index hit a new 14-year low on Thursday. Should anybody really be lending this country more money? Isn’t it like lending money to your alcoholic uncle who promises to pay you back and never will? It’s beginning to look like default may be the best alternative for Greece and possibly others.

Protect The Criminals First 

Europe keeps looking for ways to bail out the bankers who caused the problems for all these countries in the first place. By all means, let’s protect the bankers who have “exposure” to the debt burden of these countries to whom they lent money and are now crumbling under the weight of their bad economic and political decisions. Forget the citizens – they can just take on more austerity measures – the bankers need to get paid. 

A Tsunami Of Defaults Coming

There is a tsunami of problems brewing to create the perfect storm for currencies and commodities. Major economies in the world – the US, the UK, and Japan are slowing down. The housing market has gone into a double-dip, unemployment is up and consumer confidence is down along with spending. Countries, states, cities, banks, corporations, and individuals are all defaulting on their debts and entitlement obligations. Add to all this, another country popping up each week, run by some dictator who the western world used to support, that needs to be bombed into freedom and democracy. Oh, and don’t forget Mother Nature who is relentless in reminding us that she is the real ruler of the world. 

People and Countries Need A Do-Over

Once a country looks to be defaulting on its debt, other countries should think twice about lending it more money. Taking on more debt is not the answer and the situation becomes an albatross around the necks of the next generations. Wouldn’t it be better if everybody who got into trouble got a “do-over” instead of enabling them to continue down their paths of self-destruction? Rather than destroying currencies and inflating commodities, wouldn’t it be less destructive to global economies if the bankers just once didn’t get paid?

We provide Survival News Predictions to help you overcome any fear of the future you may have and empower you to prepare for what’s coming…  In the CR News Reports© session on Commodities and Currencies on April 14, 2011 we predicted that “once silver hits $50 – $52 an ounce people will start selling.”  In our CR News Reports© session on Commodities and Currencies on March 16, 2011, we predicted “that silver could possibly get as low as $31.50.” Silver was within a few cents of $50 before it started to correct and yesterday, May 12, 2011, the London Spot Silver market dropped to $32.50.   

If there is a big commodities crash happening, then why hasn’t gold crashed? Silver dropped way down and then started right back up, then stalled and came down again, then back up. Oil pulled back but will we see prices at the pump pulling back accordingly?

Governments are raising reserve requirements and now banks will have to keep more of their customer’s deposits in their vaults or at the central banks. They have less money to recklessly speculate with. We provide Survival News Predictions to help you overcome any fear of the future you may have and empower you to prepare for what’s coming…  In the CR News Report© session on Commodities and Currencies on September, 15, 2010, we predicted that silver would rise from its price at the time of $20.50 an ounce to $25 by the end of the year.  Silver hit $25 an ounce in November. We also predicted in the same session that silver would hit $35 an ounce within 12 months. Six months later, silver hit $35. Today, silver hit a 31-year high and broke $42 an ounce. The experts said that gold would hit $1,500 sometime in 2011 and then stall out. Other experts said it would hit a high of $1,459 sometime during 2011. PricewaterhouseCoopers conducted a survey of 44 commodity investors and gold mining executives and they came up with a peak price for gold of $1,500. Gold will certainly outperform all these “expert” guesses. Oil is something else rising in price and causing the consumer much angst. Gas prices and food prices affect the average consumer more than anything. How much gas costs often affects how much a family can spend on groceries. With energy and food prices comprising much of a family’s expenditures, it’s ludicrous that the government doesn’t count these when measuring inflation rates. I guess that’s why the government says we’re experiencing inflation of around 2%. If they had to figure in gas and food (like they used to), the inflation figure would be up around 10%. Apparently, politicians don’t go grocery shopping and someone else fills up their limos. So, based on the expert’s best guesses on gold, silver, and oil, they’re not any more accurate than the experts are in predicting the stock markets.  Old relationships between certain commodities, currencies and stocks don’t seem to track the same any more. In times past, when a certain commodity went up in price, another asset went down. Or sometimes, they tracked together. Now, you can no longer rely on those relationships of the past, as nothing seems to make sense anymore.
