How To Buy Experiences And Not Just Things

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT and IMPROVEMENT – 70% of the GDP in the U.S. economy depends on people shopping. Yes, “consumers” buying things is what the economy hinges on; especially things you don’t need like the latest technology, designer clothes, a big house, a big car, a big screen TV….bigger and more expensive than the last one you bought that you didn’t need. When did buying things start determining your level of personal success and development?

Predictions from Higher Intelligence: - “People used to take pride in what they produced and not what they bought. Skilled craftsmen turned out products that were the envy of the world. A sense of pride and euphoria accompanied a small part of their “soul” that was contained in the product. Those products are hard to find and mostly forgotten. If you are going to spend your money, you must spend it on something that gives you an “experience” and not just a thing that is a passing thrill. Most of the time this experience can come from a simple thing…a pair of hiking boots that allow you to enjoy nature, a handmade guitar, a vacation with your family that produces lifetime memories and helps you relieve stress, or a good book. Force yourself to choose the experience over the brief thrill. Simple is not only good, it is better.”

Commentary from the Mediums: Did you ever notice that when you buy something on a whim, or something you “just had to have” the thrill dies quickly? In fact, soon you may wonder why you bought it in the first place. It was a conditioned impulse instilled in you by Madison Avenue and peers. Is being “one of the pack” your greatest fear? Do you buy the $35 polo shirt with the jockey on it or the $15 no-name one that’s even better quality? Soon these Madison Avenue companies will be asking, “Where’s the consumers?” BTW, who decided to refer to us as a consumer – their consumer? We are not their commodity we are unique and have more important things to do than to be their consumers.
