So many people tried ordering an Apple iPhone 4 that both Apple’s and AT&T’s web sites buckled. Even with all the troubles, Apple took orders for 600,000 new phones! The order rate was ten times the order rate at the announcement of the last iPhone 3GS and 13 million AT&T users also requested upgrade eligibility. Apple’s stock is certainly reflecting their success as it continues on an upward climb. It is always a risk being a technology company that “pushes the envelope” on development and doesn’t wait for somebody else to invent the technology and then try to just improve on it. By being an innovator, Apple risks a lot up front. What if the product is a flop? Remember the Lisa? Apple seems to have enough rabid fans to sell a lot of units of most products. And what happens after all the cult followers buy?
