These winds of new change started blowing last year in about June and continue now. April saw much weather activity from the winds carrying a volcanic plume over Europe to damaging tornados across the US late in April. Winds blew a record-setting spring snowstorm to New England last week that dumped 2 feet of snow on trees that were already budding. Yes, winds play a part in most weather forecasts. Yet, they can’t be forecasted too far in advance until they show up on computer models. Nor are they mentioned much in Almanacs that predict the weather in advance. Winds are elusive. In fact, you even notice how strange it is when they are not present and the air is still. There are many kinds of wind … a nice cool fall breeze, the hot wind of the desert, a balmy, windy day on vacation in the Caribbean, or the violent, twisting winds of a hurricane. It’s all wind. It is Mother Nature’s Yin and Yang. It can generate power for us to survive or it can destroy anything in its path. A gentle breath can blow out a candle but a strong wind can fan a wildfire. Wind can drive the rains or it can wear down everything in its path. It can take you on a journey across the water in a yacht or pick up that same yacht and smash it into the shore. Dreams about wind can symbolize unsettled emotions and the need for change in your life and the world. Many times when you experience wind, you also experience water at the same time. It can be a lethal combination. Hurricanes and tsunamis are some of the most destructive storms on earth. They can also be gentle and nurturing. The breeze can carry pollen on its journey and the gentle spring rains make the flowers and crops of summer a reality. The Native Americans considered the wind to be a living force in and of itself – a god – who spoke with a powerful language. The winds brought the spirit of life. It blew from the four corners of the earth…north, south, east, and west. The North American tribes also believed these four corners were Unity, Freedom, Eternity, and Balance. Its message was interpreted by the shamans, the medicine men, and the wise spiritual leaders. Nowadays, meteorologists interpret its message. However you experience the weather and wind, study it for what it is telling you about your life and symbolically what it is trying to tell you.
