Hi Benny fans, it’s me, Trader Puss . . . Well, we’re sliding backwards from Dow 10,000 and it’s going to take more than just “it’s getting worse at a slower pace” or “we’re failing less quickly” to make me believe the recovery is here. Read my lips (if I had lips!)…”The recovery won’t show up until unemployment stops accelerating and people get back to work.” Since more than 70% of our GDP relies on consuming and shopping at the mall, the recovery won’t happen until you see all the malls full again and everybody carrying several bags in their arms. I haven’t set foot in a mall in over two years! People are not out shopping as a pastime any more. Many can’t afford the gas to get there. The closest real mall to where I live is two hours away. Do you think I’m going to drive four hours round trip so I can shop at fine stores everywhere and buy their over-priced drek? Of course not. My theory is stop consuming altogether. Buy only what you absolutely need. No eating out, no fancy vacations, no new car, no new clothes, no new nothing! It’s okay to keep the organic cat food though. And while you’re at it, sell everything you don’t need, don’t use, and don’t like. Sell all that crap you bought at Sky Mall and Home Depot on Ebay. Have a garage sale to sell what you can’t sell on Ebay. What you can’t sell at your garage sale, wrap up nicely and give it away for Christmas presents. It’s the thought that counts anyway. Cancel all subscriptions to newspapers, magazines, and your satellite TV. Get your news from the Internet and and rent movies from that red box at the grocery store for a dollar, buy some microwave popcorn and some Pabst Blue Ribbon and have a date over. If you have more than one car, consider selling one of them. Get a bike, walk, or take public transportation. You don’t have to be a consumer just because Madison Avenue says you have to be one. You may even get good at being a “non-consumer” or the “anti-consumer.” In fact, it may become fashionable to be one. If you can, barter and trade for goods and services. If you still have a job, act like you are going to lose it. Prepare for times to get worse. Don’t wait until you get that pink slip to circle the wagons. And whatever you do, don’t go out and buy one of those run-down foreclosed properties from the bank no matter how cheap you think it is. It’s not. Rent and own nothing. Let those banks that got us into this mess and got millions from us in bailout money eat all those properties. Punish them. Don’t do anything to support a bank until they start lending to small business so small business can grow again, hire people, and create new jobs. The recovery will come when small and medium-sized businesses can hire again. Large corporations are going to do what they have done for twenty years. That is, once they realized that all jobs wouldn’t be done by robots like they promised us in the ’60′s, they sent more and more jobs overseas. And they will continue to do so as they find more countries to exploit. What else can you do? Start an Internet business for some extra money. Find something you love to do and do it. Learn to play an instrument. Meditate. This may be the first time in your life you’ve done something for yourself. Volunteer where you can make a difference. You don’t need a new job, you need a new life. And you’ve got plenty of time to work on it because the recovery is not in sight.

Benny’s Psychic Powers. . . All animals are psychic, some just more so than others. . . like me! Have you ever thought about using Intuition to pick stocks? I do it all the time. Well, if you keep on doing what you’ve always been doing, you’re gonna get a whole lot more of what you already got. To put it another way. . . to get something you never had, you have to do something you never did! Benny makes a funny department . . . “Is it true that if you get the bird flu you have to go get a “tweetment” and if you get the swine flu you have to get “oinkment?”

Benny’s take on the health care industry . . . Swine flu vaccines are coming to market. Yes, the rush by several drug companies to get a product out is finally here. You can snort the vaccine or get a shot. Either way, whether you shoot some spray up your schnoz or let someone stick a needle in you, you should read this…the last time there was a swine flu “epidemic” more people died from the shots than the flu! Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Oh, but by all means, get a rabies shot.

The Health Care Reform bill that will end up being passed will be a windfall for the medical insurance companies. Imagine, they will get about 50 million new customers who will have to buy medical coverage or pay a fine. Without any public option, these new customers will be forced to buy a limited coverage, high-deductible policy. It’s been estimated that there will be no cost savings to any American who has to pay for health care on their own. It could end up costing the average American 15% – 20% of their net income just to pay for health care! If they could afford these types of costs, don’t you think they would already have coverage? Another question . . . where are 50 million new customers going to go for treatment? We already have a terrible shortage of primary care physicians in this country. So, I guess it will be the emergency room; the most expensive type of front-line care you can get. And who ends up subsidizing emergency rooms? You guessed it, the American taxpayers. Or, you should tell your kids to become Nurse Practitioners as this will be a huge growth career. Here’s my health care advice: eat only organic food, exercise daily (get a Bat-a-Bird and a laser pointer), drink plenty of fresh, filtered water, get plenty of sleep, take a nap at least 3 or 4 times a day, never over-exert yourself without the presence of an immediate reward, and avoid stress by having someone rub your belly.

How to play my picks . . . I’ve explained before how to play my picks. . . watch for them to move the direction I said and look to take a small profit when you are up at least 1.5% – 3.5%. Don’t get greedy. Especially if it looks like it may turn around. That’s it. If the stock returns a favorable profit Monday, then exit the position. Could you have made more? Maybe. Or you could have lost your gain in a reversal. You can either put an equal amount of money in each pick, or buy an equal number of shares. Either way, you’ll have a big fat cat smile on your face when you make money! And don’t forget to donate some of those profits to your local animal shelter. You’ll be glad you did and good Karma will come your way. I guess I’m just a Philanthra-Puss?
